Im vorliegenden Buch erörtert Ryosuke Ohashi mit kire, dem ›Schnitt‹, eine philosophisch-ästhetische Grundkategorie, die als das Geheimnis der japanischen Kunst in Malerei, Architektur, Skulptur, Dichtung usw. gilt. Seine Darstellung ist zugleich ein Beitrag zur Auseinandersetzung zweier philosophischer Welten, der ostasiatischen und der europäischen. Kire bezeichnet einen technisch-künstlerischen Eingriff in die Natur eines Gegenstands, durch den dessen Natürlichkeit scheinbar ›abgeschnitten‹ wird. Doch tatsächlich bringt der ›Schnitt‹ die innere Natürlichkeit als solche zum Vorschein. So schafft dieser technische Eingriff eine besondere Form künstlicher wie auch natürlicher Schönheit: Durch kire vereinigen sich das Kunstschöne und das Naturschöne im und als Kunstwerk. Kire (›Schnitt‹) bildet zusammen mit einem anderen Wort, tsuzuki (›Kontinuum‹), den in der japanischen Dichtkunst als Schlüsselbegriff verwendeten Ausdruck kire-tsuzuki (›Schnitt-Kontinuum‹). Anhand dieses Schlüsselbegriffs wird gezeigt, dass das Leben selbst, wie in der Atmung, d.h. im Ein- und Ausatmen, kein bloßes Kontinuum, sondern in jedem Augenblick ein Schnitt-Kontinuum ist. Kire gilt insofern auch als eine Lebenskunst.

This book explores the complexity of two philosophical traditions, extending from their origins to the current developments in neopragmatism. Chapters deal with the first encounters of these traditions and beyond, looking at metaphysics and the Vienna circle as well as semantics and the principle of tolerance. There is a general consensus that North-American (neo-)pragmatism and European Logical Empiricism were converging philosophical traditions, especially after the forced migration of the European Philosophers. But readers will discover a pluralist image of this relation and interaction with an obvious family resemblance. This work clarifies and specifies the common features and differences of these currents since the beginning of their mutual scientific communication in the 19th century. The book draws on collaboration between authors and philosophers from Vienna, Tübingen, and Helsinki, and their networks. It will appeal to philosophers, scholars in the history of philosophy, philosophers of science, pragmatists and beyond.

Ein zweiter Aspekt verweist die harmonia als Ordnungsprinzip des Kosmos. Damit wird die Konzeption der harmonia zur Theorie über Grundprinzipien und zum Beginn der Philosophie. harmonia wird dabei griechisch verstanden als "spannungsreiche Fügung"
